Digg's Algorithm

"You already know how Digg works. Post a funny picture of Kevin Rose or a tribute to Apple's greatness and there you have it -- you're on the front page. You're not wrong. But social media maven Muhammad Saleem says there's actually a little science to Digg as well. In a post on Search Engine Land, Saleem explains how Digg's algorithm does and doesn't work. He should know. Most of his recent Digg submissions have garnered several hundred votes. Good stuff, only it runs way too long. Here's our slimmed-down version."

I learned something new from this article. Several items of importance actually.

Great article Thanks!!!

Just Kidding. The further down the Digg road we go the more I feel that going to Digg to promote one thing is a fools errand.

It seems a group of fans could obtain some success promoting on Digg in the short term but ultimately if they do not diversify and become members of the Digg community their numbers will mean less and less in regard to the algorithm.

With this in mind I would like to suggest that a fandom may want to designate a few of its ranks to spend time searching the internet for diggable content that is not show related.

In this way they can gain some more credibility on Digg.com and help to diversify the fans Digging portfolio. This will hopefully enable more in the fan community to become Digg users who are also(filintheblank)fans as opposed to the other way around.

Understanding that an honest comment is better than a "Great Job" cheer seems to be another important lesson here as well.
